Description
In this lecture, Dr. Mathew Bechtold will discuss the diagnosis and evaluation of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Learning Objectives:
· Recognize irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and its subtypes.
· Understand pathophysiology in IBS.
· Understand how to diagnosis IBS.
· Understand and apply treatment for IBS in relation to subtype.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. Matthew Bechtold, MD, is a Professor of Clinical Medicine – Division of Gastroenterology – for the University of Missouri and the Harry S. Truman Veterans’ Hospital located in Columbia, Missouri. He holds a master’s in molecular biology from Southeast Missouri State University and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Missouri and a fellowship in clinical nutrition at the University of Louisville and Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Bechtold is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is recognized as a founding member of the Missouri Gastroenterology Society Governing Board and is active on many local and national health committees.
