William Peters – The Shared-Death Experience 2023
Discover the shared-death experience (SDE) as a deeply life-affirming and awe-inspiring phenomenon. Realizing that you can accompany your loved ones to the “gates” of a joyous afterlife offers an opportunity to shift from fear and anxiety around death to a sense of hope, wonder, and comfort that can greatly ease your grief.
The passing of a loved one can trigger anxiety for many around the inevitable final reality of life. How would your experience of loss change if you knew where they were going, and felt comforted that they were being lovingly guided to a dimension of peace and bliss?
In a shared-death experience (SDE), whether you are at the dying person’s bedside or separated by a great distance, you may witness unusual phenomena or even experience the initial stages of the afterlife yourself, a phenomenon that is more likely to happen to those who have a strong and deep emotional link with the dying person.
However, caregivers and even those who just witness a death can find themselves experiencing an SDE.
William Peters, the world’s leading authority on SDEs, founded the Shared Crossing Project to raise awareness and educate people about the profound and healing experiences available to the dying and their loved ones. He’s directed its research since 2013, and created the first research-based typologies based on his team’s study of over 1,000 accounts.
The anecdotal evidence on record regarding SDEs is deeply comforting, and tell of loved ones and caregivers participating in a dying person’s transition into an existence beyond this life, one that is glorious and beautiful beyond description.
Scott Taylor’s SDE in a crowded hospital room was so profound that it forever altered the trajectory of his life. When Mary Fran, the woman he loved, was killed in a horrific automobile accident, he spent six days at the bedside of her seven-year-old son, Nolan, who was also mortally wounded in the crash and never regained consciousness.
To Scott’s astonishment, as Nolan breathed his last, he witnessed Mary Fran coming across the veil and scooping her son up out of his physical body. He was even more surprised when he could actually feel this exquisite reunion between mother and son. As Scott shares, “The two of them then turned to me, came over and embraced me, and then the three of us left and went to the light.”
The unconditional love that enveloped them was overwhelming as they were given time to say how much they cared for each other, and to say their goodbyes. At that point, Mary Fran and Nolan turned and went further into the light, and Scott came back into his physical body.
Scott’s breathtaking experience is one of many you’ll encounter in this remarkable program. Throughout the course, William will be joined by special guests, including Scott, who will personally share amazing details about their life-changing SDEs.
You’ll also learn specific steps that you yourself can take in order to become more open and inviting to the shared-death experience, although actually initiating an SDE on your own remains shrouded in mystery as more study is needed.
Historical references to the SDE can be found in cultures around the world, yet the SDE has remained a mystery to the modern world until now, and remains a phenomenon that science has not been able to explain — though its existence has been documented in a variety of academic disciplines since the 1860s. Indigenous and pre-modern cultures have also made reference to the SDE in their own cultural contexts.
Most of the great wisdom traditions recognize the existence of an afterlife that suggests some aspect of our human selves survives human death and continues in another state of being. The SDE provides a lens that focuses on the initial transition that a soul/spirit/consciousness embarks upon when a human life ends and the journey into the afterlife begins.
As a psychotherapist, William Peters finds SDEs to be a great source of wisdom about death and dying — and the human experience in general. For him, they have solidified the notion that we are spiritual beings having a human experience — and that the most important question for our lives is not How long can I be here? but What are we here to do and be?
You might wonder how people even experience an SDE. William and his research team have classified four types: sensing, witnessing, accompanying, and guiding — and William will talk about how these healthy mystical experiences can be developed.
SDEs help validate NDEs as a real phenomenon, which many can dismiss as a trauma response. But with SDEs, these are usually healthy people having a mystical experience. There are so many common accounts of both NDEs and SDEs, it’s not likely to be mere coincidence.
Learning how to consciously enter the dying journey with those leaving their bodies is a practice that allows us access to another whole realm of existence. While it can create a “peak” experience, the purpose is really to find a higher plateau of meaning, fulfillment, and joy while you are here in a body.
During this fascinating exploration into this powerful experience, you’ll:
- Be introduced to SDEs through case studies, experiential activities, and a review of findings gathered by the world’s leading research institute on SDEs
- Recognize how SDEs suggest that the dead are never gone, the dying are never alone, and the living can catch glimpses of “heaven” — the benevolent reality that awaits us all beyond the veil
- Gain a deeper appreciation for the profound implications of SDEs and how they can transform our grief over the loss of loved ones, lessen our fears over death and dying, and help us all prepare for the best death possible
- Learn how to use common knowledge about near-death experiences (NDEs) to advance your understanding about SDEs
- Discover why the SDE is considered by many to be the most mystical type of end-of-life experience
- Understand how mindfulness practice s contribute to being able to have SDEs
- Experience a meditation to deepen your understanding of and connection with this phenomenon — a guided visualization for cultivating SDEs
- Grasp how “The Light” (in its myriad forms) in the SDE transforms lives
- Perceive how the SDE is a gateway experience to other extraordinary end-of-life experiences
- Realize the traits and practices that SDE experiencers possess
- Explore the healing gifts that the SDE offers family members
- Discern how families can intentionally manifest multiple person SDEs for themselves — and discuss how to prepare
- Learn about The Conductor and its essential role in transitioning disincarnating souls
- And much more!
Usually, the SDE experiences are positive and healing, with feelings of peace that their loved one is in a better place — and they will be together again. For many, it gives them strength and even a clearer sense of truth and a deeper reality.
They still grieve and feel loss, but that loss has context and a knowing that everything is perfect and beautiful. They know death to be a natural part of the human experience — and they know there is a benevolent power behind it, gifting them the experience so they can heal.
What You’ll Discover in These 7 Modules
In this 7-part transformational intensive, William will introduce you to the shared-death experience (SDE) as a deeply life-affirming and awe-inspiring phenomena.
This course will feature step-by-step teachings and experiential practices with William. Each session will build harmoniously upon the previous ones, so you’ll be introduced to the shared-death experience (SDE) as a deeply life-affirming and awe-inspiring phenomena. That you can accompany your loved ones to the “gates” of a joyous afterlife offers an opportunity to shift from fear and anxiety around death to a sense of hope, wonder, and comfort.
Module 1: The Similarities & Differences of SDEs & NDEs & How They Provide Evidence of a Benevolent Afterlife
We begin our exploration of the shared-death experience (SDE) by comparing it to its mystical twin, the near-death experience (NDE). You’ll learn that the similarities and differences between SDEs and NDEs reveal a common portrait of the afterlife landscape that awaits us all at the end of life.
Special guest: You’ll hear Jeff Olsen’s incredible story that involved an NDE and an SDE, after his own intimate brush with death in an auto accident that his wife and young son tragically did not survive. Jeff’s attending emergency room physician, Dr. O’Driscoll, also had an SDE — during which he communicated with Jeff’s deceased wife.
In this session, you’ll:
- Listen to deeply personal and transformative stories that show just how thin the veil is between the worlds of the living and the departed
- Understand how NDEs and SDEs both provide evidence that a benevolent afterlife awaits us
- Learn how to use common knowledge about NDEs to advance your understanding about SDEs
- Discover why the SDE is considered by many to be the most mystical type of end-of-life experience
Module 2: The History of SDEs & How to Cultivate Your Capacity to Experience Them & Reduce Your Fear of Death
In this session, you’ll learn how the SDE has been identified in a variety of academic and medical disciplines for over 150 years, even though the phenomenon was only named recently by Dr. Raymond Moody. William will share his own remarkable journey that includes two NDEs and multiple SDEs before his fateful meeting with Dr. Moody. Their meeting catalyzed the founding of the Shared Crossing Project and its pioneering research initiative, which focuses on SDEs and a series of methods that can help you have them yourself.
In this session, you’ll:
- Hear William’s harrowing journey of discovering the SDE
- Learn how the first rigorous academic study of SDEs came into existence
- Acquire an appreciation for the unique story of how SDEs came to the public’s attention
- Experience a meditation to deepen your understanding of and connection with the phenomenon of SDEs — a guided visualization for cultivating SDEs of your own
Module 3: Accompany a Loved One Beyond the Veil to Witness the Luminous Light That Greets Them for Inspiration & Comfort
It’s time to explore the first research-based typology of the SDE, with William comparing bedside and remote SDEs, as well as identifying a unique subset of SDE that does not occur at the exact time of medically determined death. You’ll learn how the SDE suggests that a soul’s transition (at the demise of the body) may best be understood as occurring over a period of minutes, hours, and in rare instances days.
Special guest: You’ll have the opportunity to hear about “Cynthia” and her awe-inspiring bedside SDE at the time of her partner’s death. She’ll share key features of experience, including ascending with her partner toward a brilliant, luminous light, and encountering her previously deceased mother-in-law, who appeared to greet her son and welcome him into the afterlife.
In this session, you’ll:
- Understand how the soul’s complete transition to the afterlife can happen over a period of hours and even days — as learned through various SDEs
- Hear the fascinating story of Cynthia’s SDE when she accompanied her partner into the afterlife
- Realize the difference between bedside and remote SDEs
- Learn about the first research-based SDE typology
Module 4: Feel the Remarkable & Ineffable Experience of Love When the Dying Are Received by Deceased Loved Ones & Benevolent Spirit Beings
Discover the power and majesty of a luminous light, a common feature of the SDE (as well as the NDE). You’ll learn about spirit beings that can appear in the SDE to greet the dying as they enter the afterlife. You’ll better appreciate the limitations of human language to describe the mystical SDE — and you’ll discover that the common element in this remarkable experience is Love.
Special guest: You’ll also hear a heartbreaking yet inspiring story from Scott Taylor, who had an SDE with the woman he loved and her son, who both died as a result of a tragic automobile accident.
In this session, you’ll:
- Discover how our deceased loved ones greet and welcome us into a glorious afterlife
- Grasp how “The Light” (in its myriad forms) in the SDE transforms lives
- Listen to a heart-opening SDE from someone who encountered his partner and her young son soon after their fatal automobile accident
- Realize how human language is limited, unable to fully express the true beauty and meaning of the SDE
Module 5: Discover Who Experiences SDEs & Why You Should Increase Your Own Chances of Experiencing Them
The most perplexing question that researchers and the general public alike have about SDEs is, “Why do some people have an SDE and others do not?” Some have wondered if there is a personality type that is predisposed to having an SDE.
William will share leading-edge research findings and his own insights to shed light on this central question. He’ll introduce the concept of an SDE adept, an individual who demonstrates an especially potent capacity to have multiple SDEs.
Special guest: You’ll hear a young mother describe her two SDEs — one bedside with her aunt and the other with a mentor and friend who was nearly 3,000 miles away when she passed.
In this session, you’ll:
- Be inspired by a young woman’s two spellbinding SDEs and what they taught her about life, death, and the afterlife
- Learn how mindfulness practices contribute to being able to have SDEs
- Perceive how the SDE is a gateway experience to other extraordinary end-of-life experiences
- Discover the personality traits and practices that SDE experiencers possess
Module 6: The Multi-Person SDE & How They Offer Tremendous Healing to Families
There are many documented SDEs in which more than one person participates — often occurring when family members are gathered around the bed of a dying loved one. Still others occur when loved ones are physically apart from the dying. In some instances, people reported SDEs when they were not even aware that a loved one was facing death.
Special guest: You’ll hear a deeply touching story from both a daughter and granddaughter who both had an SDE at the time of a loved one’s death (and how other family members also reported having experiences).
In this session, you’ll:
- Discover the healing gifts that the SDE offers family members
- Recognize various manifestations of the multiple person SDE
- Discern how families can intentionally manifest multiple person SDEs for themselves — and discuss how to prepare
- Hear the story of a family who had multiple members have an SDE at time of death of the family’s matriarch
Module 7: The Conductor — The Mysterious Force Managing the Great Transition & Its Comforting Presence to the Departing
In this session, you’ll learn about one of the most awe-inspiring features of the SDE — The Conductor. This force, sensed by the SDE experiencer, has the responsibility of managing the transition of souls into the afterlife. The Conductor can appear in a variety of ways, and is always unfailingly focused on its central task.
Special guest: You’ll hear a firsthand account from Gloria, who witnessed The Conductor at the time of her partner’s death.
In this session, you’ll:
- Learn about The Conductor and its essential role in transitioning disincarnating souls
- Be able to identify The Conductor’s unique characteristics and why they are necessary to carry out its important task
- Hear an inspiring report from a woman who witnessed The Conductor appear during an SDE she had at the time of her partner’s death
